Rock and Ice is run by Richard Hogan, who holds the UKMTB, M.I.A ( Mountaineering Instructors Award). Richard is also regularly first aid trained. He is a full member of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors (AMI). Richard is 39 and has been instructing and teaching for over 10 years.

Rock and Ice courses are different to the standard courses available through outdoor centers as we aim to tailor the timing and nature of the course to your needs, rather than expecting you to fit in with a large group with mixed abilities which may hold you back or push you to quickly.

Our courses are primarily aimed at those preferring small group or 1:1 ratio tuition in serious outdoor adventure skills, such as lead rock climbing, caving, mountaineering, sea cliff climbing, scrambling and winter skills and alpinism.
Introductory courses for total novices are one of our specialities.

All Rock and Ice instructors are fully qualified, mature and experienced
mountaineers who are fully active in the sport in which they teach.

Rock and Ice have been featured in The Times, The Daily Mirror, The Sunday Express magazine, FHM Magazine,The Derby Telegraph on Central Television and recently on Channel 4 as technical support for the drama/documentary 'Falling Apart'.
