Swanage Learning to lead Rock Climbing
Traditional routes made easy!
Many parts of Dorset’s Jurassic Coast offer the most abundant traditional and sport climbing in the UK. At Swanage, extensive limestone cliffs beckon climbers of all abilities - so, whether you're conquering the basics or looking for steep routes and overhangs, here are some climbs for you. In a region of relatively mild and dry weather that can leave its South-facing cliffs basking in the sun, this is an appealing UK destination for any sport or traditional climber.
The spread of climbing grades and styles also makes Swanage an ideal location for our courses - from Intro to Climbing to Advanced Trad. Find your feet on Dancing Ledge, then relish the heights of Mr. Fantastic, Daylight Robbery and Lovers’ Leap (most of the trad climbing crags require abseiling down to ledges about 5m above the sea). Subluminal, just under the lighthouse by East Cliff, is justifiably a favourite – with single pitch climbs up to 25m. Other climbing crags such as Guillemot Ledge also offer longer multi-pitch climbing up to 60m. Stair Hole and Blacker’s Hole delight more experienced rock climbers.
